Episodes will not only bring you the specifics of addiction including the neurobiology of addiction and how that translates into the 'real world' but they will also bring you interviews from individuals in early or long-term recovery, therapists, family members, friends, clergy, treatment providers and so much more! We would love to hear from you, whether you have a question, suggestion, recommendation, request or even if you'd like to be a guest on the show!

74. The History of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Medication assisted treatment (MAT) has been a concept in medicine and society for around 300 years despite its seemingly recent debut with the rise of the opioid epidemic. This episode will kick off the next series we will embark on, MAT and MOUD (medications for opioid use disorder). We will discuss when the concept of MAT first originated and how it has evolved from a "magic elixir" treatment to a scientifically proven treatment concept. We will also touch on some of the more historic, and seemingly controversial, places and ways MAT was done and used. Future episodes will explore more of the details of the hows and the whys of the different types and options of MAT.
